Fancy to Frugal
The trains have been super packed because of the CNY season. There is no such thing as personal space here. Tip. Just don't breathe. Just kidding.
We went to a somewhat fancier place for lunch today in TaoYuan and enjoyed an 8-course meal. Sheek atmosphere. Modern-ish plating. Fancy feasting.
After shopping around to walk off the food, we picked up some street eat for dinner. As good as lunch was, I think dinner was more my style. Enjoy the pix below.
Started off with some fancy appetizers... Plum jelly, lotus root bundle, and raw 山藥.
Then, they brought breadsticks with fresh jam.
Then I enjoyed a fruit salad (watermelon, pineapple, apple and guava) with yogurt.
Later I enjoyed some yummy soup with Gobo, Lotus Root, and Gingko Nuts. I love soup.
Next came the main course. I got baked macaroni, my mom got korean bibimbap, and my sister got the charcoal noodles.
Then dessert... With melted chocolate that we poured over the ice cream that solidified to become a shell. And closed with chrysanthemum and pomelo tea.
Afterwards, we wandered around TaoYuan and saw some vibrant macarons and truffles.
But instead, enjoyed a strawberry cake with coffee from Crown.
Then naturally, it was time to get back to our neighborhood and have some dinner...
This elderly uncle (and unpictured auntie cooked our delicious dinner). Everything on the menu was less than $2. So we got 紅燒湯麵,won ton noodle soup, braised meat over rice, stinky tofu, and oyster cakes.... Yum.
Some other sights.
Cute pet street turtle/tortoise.
Only in Asia, can you pull off a Boba shirt.
